The organizers of the New York Asian Film Festival announced on Wednesday that they will screen Takashi Miike‘s live-action adaptation of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney. Choi Min-Sik, the star of the live-action film adaptation of the Oldboy manga, will be attending the festival as a guest, and the festival will also be screening his latest filmNameless. The 11th annual film festival will run from June 29 to July 15 at the Walter Reade Theater and Japan Society.

Miike’s adaptation of CAPCOM‘s Ace Attorney videogame franchise takes place in a parallel Japan, where a large increase in harsh crimes has led to a new court system. Under this new system, the defense attorney and public prosecutor have three days to battle cases out in open court to determine guilt or innocence of the accused, placing priority on speed instead of thorough investigation.

The film opened in Japan on February 11. At its international premiere at International Film Festival Rotterdam in the Netherlands, Miike predicted that the film would be released worldwide. It played at the Hawaii International Film Festival last month, and it will play at California’s AM2 convention next month.

Ain’t It Cool News got in touch with Cameron for a comment on the state of the Battle Angel Alita movie project, and although it is indeed a far-fetched dream of his, one which is not going to materialize for a few more years at least, it’s still very much a dream of his.

“I still love that project. But Battle Angel is not going to happen for a few years”, he told AICN, adding to what is now a countless number of reassurances that he’s been sending out for what seems like a decade, that the project is not dead. Not completely. Not yet. Hopefully not ever…

The animation studios Satelight and Ixtl are co-creating this anime, based on the eroge, novel and manga adaptations of the same title (and in particular the Total Eclipse novel). The original Muv-Luv Alternative game was developed by Age and released in 2006, although the whole Muv-Luv franchise has been growing since 2003.

As a side story to Muv-Luv Alternative, Total Eclipse follows the test pilots and mechanics in the United Nations Forces’ Tactical Surface Fighter Testing Unit in Alaska. Japanese-American Yuuya Bridges is the Argos Test Team’s main pilot for “XFJ Project”, the initiative that is developing the newest Tactical Surface Fighter. The distribution company GKids plans to release Hiroyuki Okiura andProduction I.G‘s A Letter to Momo anime film in theaters throughout the United States at the end of this year. The announcement was made during the film’s opening in Japanese theaters on Saturday.

A Letter to Momo follows a girl named Momo who struggles with her father’s sudden passing and her move to the countryside. Momo finds an otherworldly surprise at her new home. Okiura spentseven years planning, writing, storyboarding, and directing the film; it is his first return to the proverbial director’s chair since Jin-Roh in 2000.

The film held its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, and it won the Platinum Grand Prize at the Future Film Festival in Italy earlier this spring. It won the grand prize at the New York International Children’s Film Festival (NYICFF), which GKids runs, last month. Production I.G aims to have the film nominated in the feature film category of France’s Annecy film festival in June. The film will open in about 300 theaters in South Korea this summer, and it will also open in Taiwan and Hong Kong this year.

GKids collaborated with Funimation to release Summer Wars in American theaters in 2010 and 2011, after releasing the Oscar-nominated European animated film The Secret of Kells in 2009. More recently, GKids signed a deal with Studio Ghibli to distribute 13 of the studio’s anime films — includingPrincess Mononoke, My Neighbor Totoro, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, and Spirited Away — in North America last year.

Each episode will run for about 50 minutes, and will receive a limited theatrical premiere at first, before the regular home video release on Blu-ray – very much like the same studio’s ongoing Gundam Unicorn series. The first part of Code Geass: Akito the Exiled should be released early this summer, to be followed every three months or so by a new episode.

The OVA’s side-story is set in a.t.b.2017, on the European warfront. A Knightmare unit made of boys and girls from Area 11 (formerly Japan) are thrown into a military operation with a 5% chance of survival. They must rescue an allied unit left behind on the European warfront.
